Learn the basics of hat knitting with instructor Nichole Heady, the perfect follow-up to our Beginner Knitting class. Designed for those that already have the basic knit stitch down, this provides guidance to elevate your skills while making a cozy accessory. Makes a great handmade gift.
We make these next steps easy and approachable so anyone can do it!
- 10am-12pm: Ribbing + Body- Work through ribbed brim and majority of the main body.
- 12pm-1pm: Break- bring a picnic lunch to enjoy in the park next door or grab something from one of the surrounding restaurants.
- 1pm-3pm: Decreasing + Finishing- Move onto decreasing and shaping the top along with finishing details.
Once this 4-hour class is completed, you will have have the skills to complete a hat and be prepared to tackle other projects made in the round. This class is appropriate for ages 12 and up.
Skills you will learn:
- Cast-on and connecting to knit in the round
- How to use circular needles
- Purl stitch
- 1x1 ribbing
- Counting and tracking rows
- K2tog (knit two together) as a decrease stitch
- Using DPN needles to complete top of hat
- Tips for adding a pom pom if desired
- Finishing and weaving in ends
Materials:
The class includes four hours of instruction and a printed pattern. Attendees need to be prepared and bring the following:
- US 10.5 / 6.5mm 16" circular knitting needles
- US 10.5 / 6.5mm DPN knitting needles
- 1 ball / 137+ yards of Lion Brand Hue + Me
- Tapestry Needle
