Sashiko is a Japanese technique of functional embroidery originally developed to patch and insulate clothing.

In this beginner-friendly class you will join instructor Nichole Heady to learn six different Sashiko embroidery stitch patterns. The patterns are printed right onto a traditional navy blue canvas fabric, so all you have to do is follow along the printed lines, which is excellent for beginners. No embroidery hoop necessary! The completed sampler style squares can be later turned into a set of coasters, sachets, throw pillow, decorative tote front, a mini quilt or used for clothing patches.

Nichole will guide you through step-by-step, providing a variety of tips and tricks along the way. This three-hour class will provide complete instruction and you can expect to get a good start on each of the six Sashiko squares and all the knowledge necessary to complete them at home. This class is inspired by the book Make + Mend, which is an excellent expansion on the concepts if you would like to take them a step-further.
