Intarsia is a classic colorwork technique used in knitting when more traditional stranded colorwork methods aren't suitable. When we saw the brand new Nougat bandana pattern from designer Aimée Gille we knew it would be the perfect project to teach this fun technique. This project involves holding one strand of fingering-weight yarn together with mohair. The checkerboard motif is worked using a simple form of intarsia, where only the mohair color changes, allowing the shades to softly interact in a marled look.
Join instructor Nichole Heady in learning the basics of Intarsia with lots of tips along the way for getting started on the Nougat pattern specifically. In this three-hour class you will master the intarsia and be well on your way to starting your Nougat project.
Please note: Intarsia involves a hefty amount of weaving in ends as you go, so if that is a process you tend to shy away from, this technique may not be a good fit for you!
Skills you will learn:
- Dividing your mohair between bobbins
- The intarsia concept and why/when it is used
- Tips on twisting consistently during color changes
- Positioning bobbins and methods for using them efficiently
- Quick steps for keeping up with weaving in ends
Materials:
The class includes three hours of instruction and a printed pattern. Note: We will be purchasing the pattern on your behalf from Ravelry directly from the designer, Aimée Gille, and have the printed version waiting for you in class. If you would like the pattern added to your digital Ravelry library as well, please add your Ravelry name in the notes section at checkout.
