Learn the basics of knitting, the perfect hobby to kick-off your summer! Master the skills needed to get started on a beautiful yet simple Boomarang Shawl.
We make the first steps easy and approachable so anyone can do it!
- 10am-12pm: Basics 101- Basic skill overview and hands-on practice, referencing the book Knit How
- 12pm-1pm: Break- bring a picnic lunch to enjoy in the park next door or grab something from one of the surrounding restaurants.
- 1pm-3pm: Project Focus- Use skills to begin work on Boomarang Shawl.
Once this 4-hour class is completed, you will have solid foundational knitting skills and be well on your way to completing your very first handmade accessory. This class is appropriate for ages 12 and up.
Skills you will learn:
- Different types of knitting needles and purpose
- Holding knitting needles
- Yarn tension
- Casting on
- Basic knit stitch
- Basic purl stitch
- KFB (knit front back) stitch
- K2tog (knit two together) stitch
- I-cord edging
- How to read a knitting pattern
Materials:
The class includes four hours of instruction and a printed pattern. Attendees need to be prepared and bring the following:
- US 10.5 / 6.5mm 32" circular knitting needles
- 1 ball / 270+ yards of Aran weight yarn (Amitola Grande recommended)
- Not required, but we will be utilizing the book Knit How and recommend it as an excellent reference as you continue your knitting journey at home.
These supplies can be purchased in-store before or the day of class using a 15% off Class Discount.
