Thrums are small wisps of unspun fleece, often referred to as roving. The thrums are often knit into mittens, socks and slippers to make them extra warm (almost like adding a sheepskin lining). This type of knitting process has been around for over two hundred years and now you can learn how to do it too. Join instructor Nichole Heady in learning how to create thrums and knit them into basic mittens. In this three-hour class you will master the art of thrums and be well on your way to completing your first thrummed mitten.
Skills you will learn:
- Working with roving
- Making thrums
- Knitting thrums into your project
- Tips on creating uniform thrums
- Other project ideas using thrums
Materials:
The class includes three hours of instruction and a printed pattern. Attendees need to be prepared and bring the following:
- US 6 / 4mm double pointed needles (or circular if you prefer magic loop)
